Me & You, Hammocking Together, Forever

So, you know how little kids carry their favorite blankie around in case of a nap emergency? Well, my Kammok Roo is my new wubby and yes, I plan to carry it wherever I may go, forever. Wherever. Really.

Hammocks have been kind of a big deal for our family this summer. We bought one in June on the seasonal aisle of a local grocery store for about 7 bucks. It was worth about 5. We used our mad DIY skills and reconstructed it into a poncho.

We purchased a second hammock to replace the first. There are four of us. Three of us don't like sharing.

I caved on the 4th of July and spent our fireworks allowance on hammock number three. Okay, so there wasn't really an actual firework allowance. I think they're a total waste of money. Quality family time spent outdoors, on the other hand, worth every penny!

The kids were having so much fun that it wasn't long before I decided to get a hammock of my very own and I honestly never intended to buy myself the best hammock. It just turned out that way. :)

Have you heard they saying, "bigger isn't always better"? Ahem, well, sometimes it is. My new Kammok is a mammoth hammock, even compared to ENO's double. Surprised? I certainly was. I compared the specs of both before I bought hammock numero three, but after unpacking my Roo it became immediately obvious that my hammock was bigger (and better) than the rest of the pack. Oh, yeah. It's comfy. Waaaay comfy. I especially noticed how much more roomy it was than our double ENO when used as a seat for one or two people rather than lying down lengthwise. It also holds 100 pounds more weight, so I don't have to panic when that third person inevitably climbs in, muddy feet and all. It's machine washable. No worries.

The really cool thing about all of our hammocks is that they are totally portable. They all squish into their own built-in drawstring storage bag that packs up to about the size of a bag of frozen peas, so if you have room in your adventure pack for peas, you're all set!

When paired up with a set of those incredibly badass daisy chain straps, (which are totally tree friendly, of couse), set up takes less than 5 minutes, start to finish.

Parachute style hammocks are the perfect thing to take to the park, the lake, the beach or to the top of a mountain for a little relaxation after a long hike. One of us discovered that if you grab a nice walking stick along the way, you can use it as a rocking stick in your hammock. Row and sway. Sway and row...yeah, there's probably a warning against that on the tag somewhere, but it sure is fun! And if you sleep in your hammock instead of a tent while camping, you can use the stick to scare away bears.

FYI, the cheap beer is pictured strictly for size comparison. Drinking and hammocks don't mix. Oh, wait...
